Redeem School

The YWAM Redeem Nursery and Primary School started in 2005 under a tree with two staff and 10 students.  Now it has grown to 12 staff, over 400 students and goes up to Primary 5.  The Nursery section (pre-school) has three levels (baby, middle, and top), from which people enter into Primary 1.  The school charges a small amount for school fees, however this amount falls short of what is needed to cover the costs for the school.  There is needed funding for books, uniforms, porridge, and payment for the teachers.

Vision:
For the children to grow in the fear of the Lord and be responsible citizens who are academically sound.

Objectives:
-Respect and value each other
-Mold them into flexible and versatile individuals
-To raise a generation of young men and women who are both strong in character and integrity striving to serve the community.

Mr. Lokuta Eluzai, the founder of the primary school, is a trained and qualified pre-school teacher with a strong desire to see the children of this nation able to know God, and also able to understand the world around through education.  Please click to read more about Lokuta Eluzai.

Mrs. Mary Aprio joined Lokuta in starting the Primary school in 2006.  Even though she comes from Uganda, and desires to reach out to the unreached people in South Sudan through education.  Her desire is to mentor the teachers so that they would be exemplifying Christ's character and be able to teach the pupils.  Please click to read more about Mary Apiro.

The school's focus is not only to educate the children, but it is to show the children who Christ is and what He has done for them.

In many ways, South Sudan has fallen behind in the area of education.  When it was colonized by the British, the government primarily developed North Sudan rather than the South.  Afterwards, when Sudan (North and South) was governed by the Arab government, there was tension and hostility between the two groups; therefore the South did not receive funding for schools or development.  Lastly, the civil-war which, in total, lasted for over 50 years did not give much of a priority or ability to focus on education.

South Sudan is just recently being able to focus on education, and be able to see its people grow in insight and knowledge.  However, it will take time before schools and staff are in place to educate the children.

The primary school has allowed children to see and understand the world, as well as be able learn about God in the process.  It has opened opportunities for the children that previous generations never had.  However, the school is presently struggling from not having enough teachers or funding.  Twelve staff is not nearly enough to facilitate over 400 children.   It is the hope of the base that the Body of Christ will be able to see the necessity of this ministry, and be willing to partner with it.  Please contact Augustine Owot, Lokuta Eluzai or Mary Apiro for more details.
