Lokuta

Lokuta has served with YWAM Yei since 2004 and runs the Primary School on base.  He is unmarried, and has no children by blood, however, he is like a father to all of the students at YWAM’s Primary School.

Ministry:
When Lokuta came to Yei, he saw that many children were not going to school because they were too far away. In 2005, Lokuta started YWAM’s preschool under a tree with two staff and 14 students. Within a month the school grew to 100 students.

But in 2007, when the students reached Preschool 3, Lokuta realized there was a need for a Primary School. In the same year, an individual donated money and the first school building was built.  In 2012, the school has two buildings, twelve staff, over 400 students and goes up to Primary 5. Lokuta’s vision is to see the school reach Primary 8 by 2015.

“Education is important because most of our parents, during the war, have not been going to school,” he said. “If we follow our parents I think we may not know what is going on in the world.”

Lokuta not only sees the value of educating children but planting the seed of God. The students are taught the word of God along with regular school subjects.

“We want to grow children who fear God,” he said. “And we want out students to be self reliant citizens in the future.”

Lokuta is presently taking a sabbatical leave to rest from the demanding job of overseeing the school to be able to assess and examine what God has been doing and what the next step for himself and the school will be.

Lokuta is also on YWAM Yei's leadership team.

Key Passage:
"The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not be in want.  He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters,  he restores my soul. He guides me in paths of righteousness for his name's sake.  Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.  You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.  Surely goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.
(Psalms 23:1-6)
