DTS

YWAM's Discipleship Training School (DTS) strives to help students grow in their relationship with God and live out their faith in the world.
The DTS consists of a three-month lecture phase and a two-month outreach within South Sudan.  Speakers from all over the world teach and train individuals on how to draw near to God, and how to follow His calling in your life wherever He leads you.  The DTS brings people from all different backgrounds together to minister as a team within the Body of Christ.   It strives to equip individuals with the basic foundations of Christianity, as well as strengthen and utilize the gifts and abilities that God has given each of us.
After the graduation of the DTS, the students are encouraged to return to and empower their local church and use the experience and knowledge they have learned to build up the Kingdom of God.  A DTS is meant to equip individuals for ministry in whatever direction God takes them, whether it be in a church, ministry, or serving at YWAM.
It is a requirement of YWAM that the staff complete a DTS before serving with the organization, and it is the first program in YWAM's University of Nations.  However, this does not mean that only people wanting to join YWAM should do the DTS, but that the DTS provides a great foundation to anyone striving to live out their Christian life.

“In Bible college they give just head knowledge, but in a DTS we deal with the life of a person.”
 – Augustine Owot, base leader

“Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God - this is your spiritual act of worship.  Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is - his good, pleasing and perfect will.”
(Romans 12:1-2)
