The Base's agriculture project is also a training ground for the community. The base has two bulls which help plow the fields, and are being used to train the community in using this valuable tool.
The vision for the agriculture ministry is to show, by example, sustainable living within the kingdom of God. It is striving to break people away from a dependence on handouts and a war-mentality. Since South Sudan is now independent, and does not need to fear the destruction and atrocities of war, the people can now turn to developing the land and utilizing the many resources that God has placed in the land.
Presently the base has taken a boy from the community and is teaching him how to handle the base’s bulls, and to cultivate the land. There are plans to be able to teach and train many others so that the community will be able to develop their land by themselves and be able to spread the idea of living off of the land and using it for development.
In this ministry, even though the message of Jesus Christ may not be shared through words, it is shared through actions. The community is able to see the different character of the people at the base compared to the rest of the world. Through this ministry, the base is also able to show the community that Christianity is not just attending church, but stretches to every aspect of one’s life. God cares about people’s entire lives, not just what happens on Sunday.
